WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.), member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, issued the following statement today regarding the resignation of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales:
“The Attorney General’s resignation offers an opportunity for Washington to stop partisan bickering and move forward with the people’s business.
“The President can start the process by nominating a quality non-political person to serve; and the U.S. Senate can reciprocate by using the confirmation process not to settle old scores or politicize the nomination, but to fairly examine the qualifications of the nominee.
“As the highest ranking Hispanic ever to serve in the federal government, Alberto Gonzales should be commended for his achievements and service.”
I'm amazed at how much spin Kyl managed to cram into a few paragraphs. It makes me dizzy just to read it.
Jon Kyl ain't my cup of tequila, but he's good at the game.

SonoranSam, you actually think he wrote that? I better not tell you the truth about Santa.

What? You mean I cleaned out my chimney for nothing?

Three perfect paragraphs: bickering is the problem, we're going to end it, and by the way the Democrats destroyed the career of the nations highest ranking Hispanic. Take that in '08!

Disgusting how Jon Kyl has asked Larry Craig, Kyl's longtime mentor in the Senate, to step down from his committee assignments, when Jon Kyl didn't ask the same of the senator from Louisiana who admitted frequenting prostitutes. In one act, Jon Kyl proved himself to be disloyal and hypocritical.

Bob,
One senator wasn't in office during the transgression, the other was. One senator wasn't arrested, the other was. One senator didn't lie upon being confronted, the other did. One senator admitted to the behavior and vowed to "sin no more," if you will -- the other is still spinning his wheels.
Perhaps Sen. Kyl is simply more discerning that you are.
