Wednesday's Star praised Governor Napolitano for her gun bill vetoes.
Let's all pause and be grateful we have a level-headed governor, a woman with the courage to refuse to pander to the powerful gun lobby.
Such melodrama, "pause and be grateful"? That's usually reserved for more solemn occasions like Communion or Memorial Day. And what's up with the emphasis on "woman." It just seems like a strange and overwrought sentence.
Then we get to this point and the image becomes more clear.
Another bill would have permitted weapons on college campuses under the contorted logic that more guns in the hands of more people — many of them immature and in the throes of testosterone poisoning — would make campuses safer. Mercifully, the proposal died.
Testosterone poisoning? Hmm, I'm pretty happy with what little testosterone I have left and I don't consider it to have ever been a poison. I thought we were beyond overt male bashing.
What would happen if a conservative editorial writer seriously suggested that women shouldn't have guns because at any given time a fourth of them are suffering from PMS? Is that a legitimate policy argument?
Instead of relying on reverent reflection for the woman who has shielded us from the testosterone-poisoned zombie rapists at our major universities, perhaps the Star should address the actual underlying arguments for or against allowing law abiding citizens--who have training, a background check and a permit--to carry a gun on a college campus.
And while you are contemplating those policy arguments, make sure that you take time today to pause and reflect on the blessings that Governor Napolitano has bestowed upon you.
That's a pretty stupid editorial. I would think issues like binge drinking and rates of depression would be of much greater concern. Also, how many women own guns?
Anyway, I don't know how this stacks up as a constitutional issue, but I think the idea that guns on campus would make colleges safer is hard for me to imagine.

I eagerly await the Star's editorial criticizing the "testosterone poisoning" of females that undergo sex changes.

Testosterone poisoning. Wow.
Could you imagine an editorial board adding a crack about PMS'y women?
Me neither.

For a comprehensive list of all the ways the Governor has truly blessed us in her six years, here is a great video:

Unfortunately, it takes more than "training, a background check and a permit" to be a responsible gun carrier. Seriously, how many college-age students would you really trust with a gun?

Muckracker,
I know many college-age students, a fair number of which have concealed weapons licenses and of those who do, there isn't a single one that I don't trust. They are all responsible young adults who also happen to enjoy firearm sports, like shooting at the gun range or hunting with family on the weekends. Contrary to what the gun-control advocates tell you, I have yet to meet a young person with a legal gun license that likes to abuse that privilege. I would make the argument that if the person has gone through the legal procedure of purchasing and carrying a firearm, there is a fair amount of trust that you can give them.
Additionally, in response to the "testosterone poisoning" comment from the article, not every college-age student with a gun license is male. I know a few female college students that also happen to own guns...

Traffic fatalities in Arizona in 2007 were
1066.
Why were those folks entrusted with a license?

Some of those quality of life statistics were true before she became governor. Second, remind me again who had control of the legislature the last six years?
Third, I am sure Mr. Robb could find some good news in many of those stats, since the creators of the video didn't tell us the whole story in their 'bumper sticker' presentation style.
My father used to say figures never lie, but liars can figure. This is my non-partisan point of view this evening :)

As a male college student with perfectly normal levels of testosterone, I find this ridiculous... It is this mindset that keep my insurance rates so high!
Also, if you look at past shootings on college campuses, it is usually the testosterone-challenged male student that snaps... just an observation.

Let's not forget about the Navajo girl, Galareka Harrison, who killed her roommate with a knife at the University of Arizona. What next? Outlaw all knives on campus?

I accept Gov. Napolitano’s fealty to me, her gun-owning overlord.
Veto all you want, Janet. You will lose every time in court.
