Sometimes a mistaken word is more effective than the real word it replaces.  I think this sentence by Paul Davenport actually describes Prop. 104 better than he probably intended.

Meanwhile, the status of a ballot measure to dismangle affirmative action programs remained up in the air.

I think an effort to "dismangle" affirmative action is much needed. I just wish I had thought of the word first.
