Last August I pointed out that candidate for Maricopa County Supervisor Ed Hermes was perhaps a bit under qualified for the office. Ed is a 24 year old who lives with his parents and excels at the video game Halo, and while he doesn't seem to appear for his traffic tickets, he appeared on the MTV reality show "Room Raiders." He also has really cool spiked out hair.
Here's how I described the race last August.
Like I said, Republicans are hopelessly out of touch. Fulton Brock is like 56... married 25 years and has three daughters. I bet he couldn't find MTV even if he had TIVO.
Ed, on the other hand is so hip, living with his parents in Chandler, appearing on panty raid reality shows with his "spiked out black hair"...and asking voters to put him in charge of a county of nearly 4 million people.
Dude, that would be such a cool job.

Unfortunately, we Democrats have decided to support anyone who touts the party line.

One other thing struck me about the mailing. Is that a recent photo of Fulton Brock? He says he's 56 years old which makes me think that photo must've been taken 20 years ago. If it is recent I want to find out what his fitness regimen is.

Maricopa County is now rated by Governing Magazine as the "Best Run County in America."
Are you kidding me? Heaven help the rest of the Counties in this country.

That's a pretty heady rating, too. Governing Magazine is the national gold standard, a subsidiary of Congressional Quarterly, and connected to the Poynter Institute.

Have you ever been part of one of these self-nominating processes by an agency? They are all about how you put the paperwork together.
Of course, if the citizens had found out that a review team was coming out they could have given them the truth about this county (a county that had a emergency planning department which existed for 102 years and which didn't have an emergency plan when asked for it!)
A few years ago there was a local high school who nominated itself for A+ school. It won at the state-level which qualified it for a national award. Some parents heard about the team coming and told the truth about the school - no national award.
