I've often heard candidates use this phrase on the stump "you spend your money better than the Government does." That statement is generally considered a truism, but many Congressmen eventually decide that their wisdom is actually better than their constituents. That's the point at which they have sold out. For Gabrielle Giffords, that point came faster than usual.
When asked about a new stimulus package, Giffords suggested that the checks shouldn't go to individual families, they should be sent to the state.
U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords said Friday that she supports an economic stimulus package that includes money for states like Arizona to balance their budgets.
And that, she said, would be better for the economy than the package last February that resulted in the federal government mailing checks to taxpayers.
Giffords said the package passed in February did not do what was intended, since many Americans used their checks to pay off bills rather than spend them.
Yeah, Gabby, that whole paying down debt thing really sucks. Just leave it to the little guy to make stupid decisions like that.

I think the judgement of the average congressman is better than that of the average voter.
It's bad enough that your tax money passes through one level of government, but two?
And paying a bill you got 10 days ago with money you earned 20 days ago is not living on credit.

President Obama and the Deemocrat led Congress is going to "bail out" Arizona's and Gov. Napolitano's financial collapse in the way of a stimulus package for states. This will help her to look fine and dandy for a Senate run in 2010.

"IF" Nobama wins the Gov will be off to Washington, I doubt she will even deal with the budget. It will be Governor Brewer's problem at that point. (not to worry she would take care of it) When McCain wins there will be no bail out for Napi and there won't be a run in 2010. Napi would have to appoint a Republican for McCain's seat and she would have to run on her failed record.

So wait. It's not ok for the common man to try get rid of his debt with the stimulus if he can and chooses to do so, but it IS ok for the state to ask for a stimulus to pay of THEIR debt?
HA!
Funny.

So, according to conservatives, it is better to give a man a fish for one day than it is to fund the schools that teach him how to fish and the public infrastructure that gets him to a lake?

"So, according to conservatives, it is better to give a man a fish for one day than it is to fund the schools that teach him how to fish and the public infrastructure that gets him to a lake?"
How about we let him keep the fruits of his own labor in the first place? Then he can choose where and how to learn to fish, pay for it himself, and buy his own lake?
What a concept!

Cac: I am always curious: Exactly how much is it to "fund the schools"?

Why are we in debt? Because our Governor can't balance a check book.
Sometimes I think the Democratic party would just surrender all their responsibilitues to the government.

"Why are we in debt? Because our Governor can't balance a check book."
Pulllleeeeeaaaase! The Republicans have been in charge of both Houses of the Legislature (kind of reminiscent of another group of Fiscally Conservative Republicans, eh?) for decades. They, not the Governor, control the purse strings. Napi only gets what the legiscritters give her. And it has been anything she wants.

Gabby graduated from fledgling hack to senior hack in one term. Congratulations.
It seems like only yesterday that she was voting to take away secret ballots from union victims and using soldiers as pawns in her little "timetable for withdrawal" game. Now she's all grown up and asking the federal government to fund defecit spending at the state level.
Is this the little girl I carried,
Is this the little boy at play?
I don't remember growing older,
When did they?
Sunrise, sunset, sunrise sunset....sniff.
