Subject: Department of Homeland Security
A few moments ago I was honored to accept the nomination of President Elect Obama to become the Secretary of Homeland Security. I intend to resign as Governor once my nomination is confirmed by the Senate.
Just a little over six years ago we embarked on an extraordinary mission to serve the people of Arizona. One of the things of which I am most proud is the team that has worked with me. Your efforts have been invaluable and your service unparalleled. I am proud of all we have accomplished together.
Trust me when I tell you that I know the future to be both exciting and a little unsettling. I recognize that my departure comes almost two years ahead of what some of you may have planned. As we manage through the last months of my Administration, we will work with all of you to ensure the smoothest transition for you and your families, for Secretary Brewer and for all of Arizona.
Please accept my heartfelt thanks for all you have done for me and for all Arizonans.
Governor Janet Napolitano
I would feel better if she just said, "It's been real." At least then I would know -- just like in high school when you signed the yearbook of someone you hardly knew -- that she will never see us again, is happy to be going to greener pastures and really never cared that much anyway.

Janet wrote, "Please accept my heartfelt thanks for all you have done for me and for all Arizonans."
Who is the 'you' in the above sentence?
This is a very poorly written letter.

It was unsettling to listen to Obama introduce his homeland security secretary as being qualified based on her care and concern for education.
I guess when one's own qualifications are based on nothing but words, this makes sense.
Perhaps he thinks that homeland security is about the oversight of school security guards and mall cops.

When one person has to tell another person "trust me", they more than likely can't be trusted.

That's gotta be a typo, she was appointed Chief of Homeroom Security.

Bye, Guv. It was an honor serving as your stepping stone, and we'll remember you every time we behold the expansive vista at the top of the Peak Formerly Known as Squaw. Best wishes for all that lies ahead.
By the way, when you get the inside scoop on all the attacks against our country being plotted by all those bad foreign dudes, you have our permission to ignore the platitudinous sentiments expressed on our beloved 9-11 Memorial. We won't mind.
