Stay classy, Dana.

"The Tribune, with a free daily distribution of some 70,000 units, is now the functional equivalent of the State Press. But the State Press, of course, is written by Journalism Students who are hoping to leverage their experience into a $9 an hour internship with the Republic. My guess is that the Tribune doesn't enjoy a similar cost structure. This is no temporary setback; the Tribune no longer has a viable business model." "Greg's statement that the Tribune has basically become the State Press with 70,000 papers is simply hogwash." (http://www.espressopundit.com/2007/11/the-tribune-res.html)

I guess we now know who was right.

My sympathies, of course, to those who are losing their jobs.

One wonders how many newspapers there will be in five years or so. There is still a market for news, but those who wish to serve that market need to find a business model. I wish I knew what that model might be.

I hear we are losing about 100 jobs a day in this state....
