Last year Governor Brewer was attempting to make the point that Mexican violence is out of control and that some of it is spilling over to this side of the border. It's a serious topic and if you follow Spanish language news, you will see the topic of Mexican violence and possible spillover discussed extensively.
Here's a quick quiz...how many Mexicans have been killed in the violentspree that has taken place over the last few years? Do you have any idea? Since the issue is not well covered by American media it's hard to find the number, but my recollection from the Univision reports is that the number approaches 50,000. Many of the bodies recovered in Mexico are headless.
Unfortunately, Brewer misspoke and said that some of the headless bodies were found in Arizona. Rather than ignore this gaffe and focus on the real story--Mexicans are getting killed at a faster pace than American Soldiers were in Vietnam--the media played gotcha on the location of the headless bodies.
Her underlying point was, of course, correct, but you aren't going to see that in the coverage.
Meanwhile in the intervening year, Mexican violence continues to spin out of control...and the headless bodies found in the Arizona desert are considered to be one off events. Maybe someone should look into this:
A man's decapitated body was found on the side of a dirt road Friday morning west of the Tucson Mountains.
All talk of kinder and gentler treatment of illegal aliens by apologists like Jerry Lewis, John McCain, Jeff Flake and the rest only encourage more deaths in the desert. "We have to get to America while amnesty is in the air." "We have to get there while Obama and Napolitano are in charge."
Our open-borders "leaders" literally have blood on their hands. When Republican "leaders" oppose our own Platform to coddle illegal foreigners it is especially disgusting.

I liked all the Southern Arizona resort people giving Brewer a bad time last year about those comments "you can't say that, it will destroy our business"....yeah, that or we can get the feds to solve THEIR problem. One or the other.
Yeah, the lib media really jumped on her and now are standing around with their hands in their pockets or worse yet trying to make Fast and Furious all about George W. Bush. They are pathetic.

I believe last year there was a decapitated body found in Chandler that was linked to the cartels.
I wouldn't be surprised if cartels tone down the level and methods of violence in the U.S. so as not to attract unwanted attention - I always think of that line from Clint Eastwood's Gauntlet about why the Vegas mob didn't whack the bus on the highway into Phoenix - but that doesn't mean that bit by bit we won't see increasing amounts of the stuff if authorities don't take it seriously.

I can't believe that I missed the Republic's coverage of this story!

If Romney is the 2012 pick for the GOP, he can begin explaining this bit of family history:

Just remember the border is more secure than it has ever been and that Hussein The Wise has deported more illegals than Dubya. I read about it in the newspapers after all so it must be true.

Although the news of at least two headless bodies connected to illegal immigration/Mexican drug cartels have been found in Arizona, the Republic still refuses to acknowledge it.
Still staring at the noonday sun and saying it's dark outside.
