Maybe we need a 50-year Jubilee, like Moses instituted with the Hebrews. Every 50 years all debts were forgiven, slaves were freed, birds sang, etc., etc.
Oh, wait, that's what the Occupy Wall Street nutjobs want. . . never mind.

Good article and it highlights the challenges we face quite well. Anyone seeking a deeper understanding of the economic challenges we face needs to read "The Great Stagnation" by Tyler Cowen.

RonJ mentions the jubilee. The wisdom behind that concept was that it was predictable, which meant that debt contracts would take it into account. In turn that means a great winding of debt like what's led to this current crisis would never happen. We've been sold the false of promise that we can have our cake and eat it too. Ultimately, reality has to kick in and that's never pretty.

Great article and comments. You are correct, Byron S, predictability was a wise portion of the Jubilee concept. The wisest portion was that it was instituted and overseen by a prophet of God. Obama is no messiah, let alone a prophet. But it would be wise if our federal government would provide some predictability in our financial system--other than corruption.

So glad that situation was caught in time! You're both in my heart and prayers. Beautiful card, too!
