The Arizona Republic announced today that it had published the "largest public database of government employees' salaries in the state". They put the article A1 above the fold in the print edition and then spent the day Tweeting about how many months of effort it took to create this one-of-kind resource.
Then by day's end, they had to issue a correction. "It is not the only public database containing such information."
At first blush, it seem like that correction only applies to the Tweets. But in reality, it applies to the whole project. Why spend months creating an additional database? They could have just linked to the first one. Check out the series of Tweets and then think of the reaction when it finally dawned on them that the entire project was wasted.
