It's fun to highlight mainstream media hypocrisy. Notice for example that local journalists insisted that every Republican denounce the racist comments of Rep. David Stringer. However, I have yet to see a journalist ask a Democrat to denounce the racist actions of Secretary of State Katie Hobbs.
Here's another example from the Republic's EJ Montini.
Every time there is negative news about Donald Trump, Montini calls it a "bombshell" and asks if Ducey is still sticking with Trump.
Of course, Montini doesn't apply this standard to himself. Montini stuck with Bill Clinton well past the bitter end. Check out this classic column from March of 2000.
This is a two-fer. Montini gets to show that he's sticking with Bill Clinton despite years of what would now be termed "Me Too* moments." Plus Montini gets another opportunity to insult his nemesis John McCain. The only thing that would have made the column better is if Montini also got the chance to praise his friend Ed Buck.
*When historians wonder how Bill Clinton survived the Me Too Era, they will point to mainstream journalists like Montini who worked overtime to rationalize, normalize and justify Clinton's behavior. Not only did this type of commentary protect Clinton, but it also delayed the onset of the movement by decades.
